SMP is also an ideal option for providing long term scalp camouflage, for scars that result from accidents, burns, vitiligo or scarring alopecia.
The SMP scar camouflage process, can only be performed on stable transplant scars. These are scars that are at least 9 months to one year old. Scars that are still pink, are still healing, and we do not recommend scalp micro-pigmentation, until the pink areas are gone.
We Can Accelerate The Scar Healing Process
The healing process of any scalp scars can be accelerated with a variety of skin conditioning treatments and products aimed at reducing inflammation. These treatments will also normalize the appearance of scars more quickly. Many scars will require a skin “pre-treatment” to relax the surface, if the scar is lumpy or has an uneven texture. Our Technicians will work with you to effectively smooth the appearance of your scars from the inside out. If needed, scar re-texturizing treatments will improves the quality and duration of pigment retention.
If your scars are at least 6 months old, our clinic offers several non-invasive treatment options that can accelerate the healing process.
The Nouveau Clinic’s SMP technicians, can perform these treatments on your scalp as a stand alone service or as a pre-treatment to prepare the skin for scalp micro-pigmentation.
What to expect from Scalp Scar Camouflage Procedures
Skin that is scarred, is not healthy tissue. Our technicians will work with you to help you accelerate your healing, or pre-treat your older scars before beginning the scar camouflage procedure. * For best results, most clients will require some scar pre-treatment services before their initial micro-pigmentation session.
How Many Sessions Will It Take to Cover My Scar?
It will most likely take from two-to-three sessions to create a satisfactory camouflage effect. After the initial session, your scalp will be slightly red “ or darker” in the areas treated for a couple of days, but there is no real down time. Your SMP Technician will review our recommended pre-and-post care options at the time of your consult.
After each SMP session, the pigment we implant to mimic hair follicles or skin color, will seem more intense . As the skin heals, the camouflage color settles and sets up. This takes from 10 to 14 days. The artistry become softer, lighter and more diffused as the skin heals over the camouflage effect.
Repeat treatments can be scheduled between two to four weeks apart. In the following sessions, your SMP Technician will tweak the color and artistry “as needed” to create the best possible scar camouflage for your scalp. Our goal is to “hide or diffuse” the scars, so that they are no longer visible to the naked eye.
How long will the Scalp Scar Camouflage Last?
We are implanting micro-insertions of pigment into damaged scalp tissue; as a result, the scar camouflage may not last as long as traditional scalp micro-pigmentation services. We estimate a range of between 18 months to 3 years before you may require a color booster to restore the camouflage effect.
Your scar camouflage will be maintenance free during this time, with the exception of any optional hair color or hair styling services needed to maintain your desired look.
